DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is a validation system used to certify that an e-mail has been sent by an authenticated email server or person. An electronic signature is attached to the header of the email message by using a private key. When the email message is received, a public key that is available in the global DNS database is used to validate who exactly sent it and if its content has been edited in some way. The main task of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to prevent the widespread spam and scam messages, as it makes it impossible to forge an email address. If a message is sent from an email address claiming to belong to your bank, for example, but the signature does not match, you will either not get the message at all, or you’ll receive it with a notification that most likely it is not a genuine one. It depends on email providers what exactly will happen with an email which fails to pass the signature check. DomainKeys Identified Mail will also give you an extra layer of security when you communicate with your business associates, for example, as they can see for themselves that all the messages that you exchange are legitimate and haven’t been tampered with on their way.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Shared Hosting

If you get one of the shared hosting service that we offer, the DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality will be enabled as standard for any domain name that you add to your shared account, so you will not need to create any records or to do anything manually. When a domain is added in the Hosted Domains section of our in-house developed Hepsia Control Panel using our NS and MX records (so that the email messages related to this domain will be handled by our cloud hosting platform), a private encryption key will be generated instantly on our mail servers and a TXT resource record with a public key will be sent to the global DNS database. All addresses set up with this domain will be protected by DomainKeys Identified Mail, so if you send emails such as regular newsletters, they will reach their target audience and the receivers will be sure that the messages are genuine, as the DomainKeys Identified Mail option makes it impossible for unauthorized people to forge your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers

Our semi-dedicated servers come with DKIM activated by default, so if you choose this type of hosting and you add a domain using our name servers through your Hepsia Control Panel, the records needed for the validation system will be created automatically – a private key on our mail servers for the digital signature and a TXT record carrying the public key for the global DNS system. Since the DKIM protection is set up for a given domain name, all email addresses created under it will have a signature, so you will not need to worry that the emails that you send out may not reach their target email address or that somebody may spoof any of your addresses and try to spam/scam people. This may be very essential in case you use email communication in your business, as your partners and/or clients will be able to distinguish legitimate messages from phony ones.
